My Soulmate (Mera Mahi) Chapter: 4

My Soulmate (Mera Mahi)

Chapter 4

Written by: Ishrat Zahid

As soon as Rehman turned around, he found Nasreen standing there. She had come to ask why he had locked himself in the room without speaking to anyone since returning home. Was everything alright? Upon seeing Nasreen, Rehman's face turned pale. A single fear echoed in his mind: would the secret he had guarded for so many years finally be revealed today? If Nasreen found out, what would happen to their married life? Above all, the story of his incomplete love would become the talk of the town, especially with a grown-up son in the house. When Nasreen reached down to pick up the photograph that had fallen on the floor, Rehman quickly lunged forward, grabbed it, tucked it back into his diary, and locked it inside the drawer.

A wave of suspicion flickered in Nasreen's eyes. "What is in this diary that you have never shown me? And you never used to open this drawer. Rehman! What are you hiding from me? I am your life partner; I have the right to know." Rehman stood frozen for a moment, then, composing himself, he snapped, "Do not interfere in matters that do not concern you. If you want to worry, worry about your son. Every Friday, he goes to Mian Ji's house, where Reeja is also present. I do not like Aneel and Reeja crossing paths at all. Explain this to him in your own words, or I will handle it my way." Before Nasreen could say another word, he stormed out of the room in a rage.

Nasreen sat on the bed, lost in thought. First, Rehman didn't like her going to Mian Ji's house—she barely even saw her own mother anymore. Now, would her son also be deprived of his maternal home? Zarmeenay was her own sister, and Reeja was her niece, not a stranger. Reeja was such a well-mannered girl; she wondered how much more heartbreak this enmity between Rehman and Siraj would cause.

Meanwhile, terrified by the high speed of the car, Aneel interrupted, "Ramsha! Do you always drive this fast? This is a car, not a rocket! We just barely avoided an accident." Ramsha slammed on the brakes with a violent jerk and said angrily, "I've been listening to your lectures for too long. I've never taken this much from anyone. Get out of my car right now!" Aneel looked at her in disbelief. "Are you crazy? First, you brought me all the way to the highway, and second, my car was at the university, which is why you gave me a lift." "Aneel! Get out!" Ramsha screamed. "Call your driver to bring your car and go home, 'slow driving' with him. I'm heading to my uncle's." Furious, Aneel opened the door and stepped out, and Ramsha sped away. Aneel stood by the roadside, watching the car disappear, then let out a long sigh and sent his location to his driver.

On the other side, Siraj walked into the lounge, fuming with anger. "Zarmeenay!" Where are you?" Hearing his loud voice, Zarmeenay came running out of the kitchen. "Siraj Sahab, is everything okay? Why are you shouting? There are servants in the house; what is the matter?" Siraj asked sharply, "Where is your 'darling' daughter?" Zarmeenay replied, "She isn't feeling well; she's sleeping in her room. But what happened? Tell me." "I found out that Reeja meets Aneel at Mian Ji's house!" Siraj roared. Gathering her courage, Zarmeenay said, "They are cousins. If they happen to meet, what is there to be so angry about?" Siraj's temper hit the roof. "Do you have no regard for my honor? My daughter meets the son of my enemy? You, mother and daughter, will leave me with no dignity!" Hearing this, Zarmeenay burst into tears. "First, I was banned from meeting them, and now you are imposing it on Reeja, too. They are her relatives; she will go there, and I will not stop her. I endured every restriction on myself, but I will not sacrifice my daughter to your enmity."

Siraj got up in a rage and went to his room. In reality, his anger wasn't just about Aneel and Reeja's meeting; it was about the piece of land he wanted to buy. The party had suddenly refused to finalize the deal with him. Upon investigating, he discovered that Rehman wanted to buy that land to build a factory. Rehman had also contacted the owner of the adjacent land and offered a much higher price. When Siraj found this out, he decided to outbid Rehman at any cost. This business rivalry was the true source of the anger he was venting on Zarmeenay and Reeja. He was still marking maps, his eyes fixed on the land, but his mind was filled with Rehman's face—the man who always stood in the way of his every plan. "Rehman! I will never let you have this land, even if I have to go to the ultimate extreme." He sent a message on his phone and slammed it down on the table.

Meanwhile, thousands of miles away from Pakistan, in a peaceful home in London, Fizza's world was entirely different. There was no shadow of enmity here; instead, joy and excitement filled the air. Zareef and Fizza's children were jumping around the room, thrilled about their upcoming trip to Pakistan. "Mama! Can I take this toy for Grandma, too?" the younger son asked excitedly. Fizza and Zareef smiled at their children's innocent happiness. There were only two days left until their flight to Pakistan, so the packing had to be finished today, no matter what. Heaps of clothes and gifts lay on the bed. Zareef looked proudly at the packages containing special gifts for his mother, father, and both sisters. "Kids, pack these gifts in the suitcase quickly, then we need to get ready for the airport," Zareef said cheerfully. Fizza took a deep breath, remembering the scent of her homeland's soil. She had no idea how deeply the elders of the family in Pakistan were currently mired in bitterness; she was busy packing, with dreams of meeting her loved ones in her eyes.

On the chessboard of fate, the pieces were making their moves, and in this game, the greatest loss was destined for those innocent hearts who, unaware of these conspiracies, were being drawn toward each other.
