Chapter 14: The Fatal Accident and Accusations

Nasreen kept glancing at the clock, her anxiety rising as Aneel had not yet returned home. Terrified, she called Zarif. Waking from a deep sleep, Zarif checked the time—it was 12:30 AM. He wondered why his sister was calling at such an hour. As soon as he picked up, Nasreen frantically explained that Aneel had left for home at 10:00 PM after their last conversation but hadn't arrived. Zarif grew concerned and stepped out of the room quietly so as not to disturb Fiza's sleep. He consoled Nasreen, asking if she had the number of any of Aneel's friends. Nasreen cried, saying Aneel was never this late; fearing Rehman, he always made it home by 11:00 PM. "My heart is sinking," she sobbed.

Zarif told her to be patient and promised to look into it. He tried calling Aneel's number again. During their last talk, Aneel had said he was almost home—so where did he go? The phone rang, and a girl answered. Startled, Zarif asked for Aneel. The girl asked who he was, and Zarif identified himself as the maternal uncle. She then revealed she was hospital staff. Aneel had been in a horrific car accident; he was in the emergency ward under observation, and the family needed to arrive immediately.

Zarif's heart skipped a beat. He rushed to Mani's room and knocked urgently. Mani told him to come in. When Zarif turned on the lights, Mani jumped up in shock. "Mani, hurry! Aneel has had an accident. We need to pick up Nasreen Apa on the way; the hospital just called. " They rushed to Nasreen's house. She was waiting in the lounge, hoping the opening gate meant Aneel was home, but seeing Zarif's face, she let out a scream. Zarif forced her into the car, and Mani sped toward the hospital.

At the hospital, Mani ran toward the ICU. Aneel was in critical care, and no visitors were allowed. Zarif spoke to the doctor, who explained that a passerby had brought Aneel in along with his wallet and phone. They had used the phone to inform the family when Zarif called. Aneel was covered in bandages—head, arm, and leg—and hooked up to various machines. Seeing her son through the glass, Nasreen was inconsolable. Mani, too, couldn't hold back his tears, given his deep friendship with Aneel.

Zarif supported Nasreen, reminding her to trust in Allah and the power of a mother's prayer. He also counseled Mani, "You are sensible; compose yourself." If you cry, how will I manage, Nasreen?" Mani wiped his eyes and said heavily, "Uncle, it seems happiness doesn't suit Aneel." Zarif replied, "Consider this a trial; Allah tests those He loves most." Meanwhile, Reja woke up suddenly, as if from a nightmare. She drank some water and prayed for Aneel's safety, deciding to give charity in the morning before trying to sleep again.

When Fiza woke up and found Zarif missing, she initially thought he was in the bathroom. When he didn't return, she called him. Zarif told her everything but insisted she keep it from Mian Ji and Amma for now. Fiza prayed for his recovery. Outside, Mani stood thinking, "What is the fault of these innocents? First, the father wasn't agreeing, and now that Mian Ji finally built a bridge, this tragedy happened. "Oh Allah, don't separate them; Aneel hasn't even had the chance to smile properly yet." He worried about when Aneel would regain consciousness and how Reja would react.

By 4:00 AM, Nasreen insisted on seeing her son. Suddenly, the staff announced he was conscious and calling for his mother. Nasreen, Zarif, and Mani rushed in. As Nasreen kissed his forehead, doctors arrived for an examination. They decided on a CT scan to ensure there was no major internal injury. The doctor told Zarif it was a miracle. Aneel survived because the car was completely totaled. Due to the impact, his right arm and leg were bandaged, but fortunately, there were no fractures.

Aneel asked weakly, "Didn't Baba come?" Nasreen said he didn't know yet, but they would call. Rehman's phone was on vibration; he had taken medicine and was asleep. After several missed calls, Zarif left a voice note and went for prayers. At dawn, Reja sent a 'Good Morning' text to Aneel, but receiving no reply, she assumed he was still asleep. Suddenly, Mani called and narrated the whole accident. The ground slipped from beneath Reja's feet; she finally understood why she had been so terrified in her dream.

Reja asked Mani for constant updates, then folded her prayer mat and walked onto the lawn where her father, Siraj, was returning from Fajar prayers. Seeing her up so early, Siraj was surprised and offered more money for her trip. Reja brushed him off with a "Yes, okay," but internally she wondered how she could ever leave Aneel now. She decided to inform her friends, Samra and Rohan, about Aneel's condition.

After the CT scan, Aneel was shifted to a private room. He felt better. He asked Zarif and Mani to go home, but they stayed until his discharge was finalized. When Rehman woke up and saw the missed calls, he called back and learned of the accident. He apologized, saying he had taken medicine and Nasreen hadn't woken him up. Rehman immediately postponed the plans for Aneel's Nikah with Ramsha and rushed to the hospital.

Many classmates had arrived with flowers and fruit following the news from Samra, Rohan, and Reja. When Rehman entered the room, he was shocked by the heap of bouquets. He told Aneel to drive carefully, but Aneel revealed, "I felt like someone was following me; suddenly a car appeared in front, and we collided. " Rehman said furiously, "This was an attack by my enemies! From now on, you won't go out without a guard, and I will investigate this."

Reja, who was listening outside, was shocked. When Rehman left to see the doctor, she went inside. Seeing Aneel, she burst into tears. Aneel took her hand and said, "Reja, you are my strength; don't be weak." Reja said she had to leave, as she had told her parents she was going to the university, and she didn't want a scene. Outside, she saw Zarmeena and Zarif arriving to see Aneel, while Rehman returned, and the three of them went into Aneel's room.

All the way back, Reja wondered who would attack Aneel. She was convinced she knew who was behind the "accident"—it was a revenge plot against Uncle Rehman. "Oh Baba! Did you really do this? How could you go this far? If Aneel had lost his life in your rivalry, how would I have lived? You have no regard for relationships."

Instead of going to the university, she went straight to her father's office. She instructed the driver to turn toward Siraj's office. Upon arrival, she asked the receptionist and walked straight into Siraj's cabin. Siraj stood up in shock, as Reja had never visited the office before. Reja burst out, "So you finally did it, Baba! You wanted to kill Aneel, but Allah saved him. Your henchman tried his best, but Aneel was meant to live. How could you do this just to spite Uncle Rehman? He is filing a police complaint, and I will testify that your man did this!"

As Reja turned to leave, Siraj's voice thundered, "Listen before you go—I didn't do this! I had called it off that very day. My enmity is with Rehman; I would never dream of harming his son. "Reja, do you really think your father is that evil?" Reja turned and saw a look of deep pain on her father's face. Siraj continued, "I have lost my love once, and I don't want to lose it again. Yes, daughter! You are my love. I am the father of a daughter, and after seeing you in the hospital, I know what love is. I have done many wrongs in the past, but I could never forgive myself for this."

He moved forward, his voice thick with emotion. "Believe me, I really didn't send anyone to kill Rehman's son. I am telling the truth this time. If you still doubt me, take me to the police and report me yourself; maybe then you'll be satisfied." Reja looked into her father's eyes and saw the truth, but her heart still ached for Aneel. "I believe you, Baba. Now the police will investigate, and the truth will come out. But remember, if your hand is found in this, you will lose me." Reja walked out, leaving Siraj troubled.
If he didn't do it, then who attacked Aneel? "I will find out myself..." he thought, picking up the phone.
