My Soulmate (Mera Mahi) Chapter: 16
My Soulmate (Mera Mahi)
Chapter: 16
Fiza stood on the lawn, watching the children play, but her mind was trapped in that hospital room where a battle between life and death was unfolding. She had visited Aneel once, grateful that she didn't have to face Rehman for long. His burning gaze felt like a trial for her patience. Rehman seemed so consumed by his son's pain that he appeared oblivious to Fiza's presence—or perhaps he was merely pretending. Fiza preferred it this way; she wanted him to leave the ashes of the past undisturbed and find happiness in the life he had chosen with his wife and son.
Soon, Mani approached Fiza and informed her that Mian Ji wanted everyone ready to visit Aneel again. With a heavy heart and a deep sigh, Fiza called out to the children and began preparing herself with a sense of reluctance. Dressed in the light-colored suit gifted by Roshan Ara, she looked as graceful as ever, though the sparkle in her eyes had been replaced by a profound, silent stillness. As they drove toward Rehman's house in the Pajero, Fiza's gaze remained fixed outside the window, as if trying to outrun the memories that greeted her at every turn.
Upon arriving at Rehman's residence, Nasreen welcomed them warmly and led them into the drawing-room. She mentioned that Rehman was still at the office but would return shortly. Fiza felt a momentary surge of relief, thinking she could breathe freely in his absence. When she took the children to Aneel's room, his face looked pale under the room's lights. A faint smile touched his lips as the children handed him cards and flowers. While Mian Ji comforted Aneel, Fiza stood quietly in the corner, observing the young man with a heavy heart.
Meanwhile, at the office, Rehman felt an inexplicable sense of dread. He canceled all his meetings and headed home immediately. As his car pulled onto the porch and he saw the children playing on the lawn, he knew Fiza was there. Instead of going inside, his feet instinctively led him toward the tree where Fiza stood, lost in thought, holding white flowers in her palm. It had been years since he had seen her this closely.
"These are the same flowers, Fiza, that you loved so much during our college days," Rehman's voice pierced the silence. Fiza startled, nearly dropping the flowers. Seeing the desperation in his eyes, he couldn't help but say, "You are just as beautiful today!" However, Fiza cut him off firmly, stating, "Rehman Sahab! I am Zarif's wife now, and I love him. There is no room for past misunderstandings in my life anymore." With that, she walked away toward the house, leaving a desolate Rehman behind.
Nasreen watched this scene from the kitchen window. From a distance, she saw Rehman's slumped shoulders and heard the echo of Fiza's hurried footsteps. It felt as though Rehman was returning from a battle he had lost—one he had staked his entire life on. When Rehman finally came inside and sat before Mian Ji as if nothing had happened, Nasreen felt a growing restlessness. She began to wonder what secret her husband had been hiding from her all these years.
At the same time, Mani, who was taking crates of fruit out of the car, suddenly froze. He heard a muffled voice coming from the gallery behind him. It was Rehman, speaking on the phone about his unrequited longing. "I accepted Nasreen, but my heart belonged to Fiza, and it always will. " Rehman's words hit Mani like a thunderclap. Stunned, Mani finally understood why Fiza Mami was always so hesitant to visit this house. He felt as though he were standing on a powder keg, wondering what to do with this devastating truth.
On the way home, Mani called Reja, only for her to make another startling revelation. She mentioned that her father, Siraj, also had a secret from the past that her mother and she were unaware of. The ground seemed to slip from beneath Mani's feet. Between Rehman's truth and the hidden side of Siraj's life, Mani realized that the elders in his circle had all been guilty of their own secret loves. After hanging up, his head was spinning. If Zarif ever discovered the truth about Rehman, this family might never be whole again.
